A Message of Gratitude and Hope
A Message of Gratitude and Hope: Kuel Akook’s Reflection on Aweil Town Orphanage School's Transformation
Aweil Town, South Sudan | Christ Mission to the World
Greetings from Aweil Town, South Sudan! My name is Jacob Kuel Akook, and I am the Head Teacher of Aweil Town Orphanage School. I am writing to extend my heartfelt gratitude to 200 Orphanages Worldwide and GO! for the incredible support and generosity you have shown to our school and community. Your contributions have played a vital role in transforming our school, making it a better place for both students and teachers alike.
Life-Saving School Feeding Program
First and foremost, I want to express our deep appreciation for the school feeding program that has been implemented thanks to your funding. Before the program was introduced, many of our students came to school without any meals, and some were even suffering from malnutrition. It was heartbreaking to see so many of our children struggle with hunger during school hours, unable to focus or engage in their lessons due to the weakness brought on by starvation.
Now, with the school feeding program in place, we are able to provide nutritious meals every day from Monday to Friday. This consistent access to food is not just improving their physical health but also their academic performance. It is literally saving lives and has been a blessing for both students and staff. Many of the children are now showing increased energy and enthusiasm in their learning, and we can see the positive impact this initiative is having on their overall well-being.
The Borehole: A Lifeline for Our School
Another crucial improvement that has greatly benefited our school is the new borehole. Before this, we faced significant challenges in obtaining clean water. The previous water source was far from the school, and students often had to make long, tiring trips to fetch water. This not only wasted time but also left the children exhausted and unable to focus on their studies.
Now, with a functioning borehole at the school, our students have easy access to running water. It is such a relief for both the children and the staff. The children can now use their energy to pump the water, which is both a productive activity and a necessary part of maintaining the school’s operation. Having access to clean water is not just a convenience, but a basic human right, and we are deeply thankful to have it.
However, I must also bring to your attention an urgent need we have regarding the borehole Gi5, connecting rods, and cylinders. These parts are wearing out after long use and need to be replaced. Without proper maintenance and replacement, we risk facing water shortages once again. Therefore, we kindly ask for further support in upgrading these components to ensure that our borehole continues to provide safe and reliable water for the children and the school.
The Importance of Latrines for Privacy and Health
Before the construction of proper latrines, our students were forced to use open spaces for sanitation. This was not only unsafe but also a significant health hazard. Privacy was a luxury that many of the children did not have, and the lack of sanitation facilities contributed to poor hygiene and the spread of disease.

Now, thanks to your funding, we have latrines that offer much-needed privacy and safety for the children. This is a major improvement that has contributed greatly to the student’s dignity and well-being. We are no longer facing the challenges of open defecation, and the school environment has become much cleaner and safer for everyone.
A Future Full of Hope
In closing, I would like to once again thank 200 Orphanages Worldwide and GO! for your unwavering support. The changes that have taken place in our school have been nothing short of life-changing for both the children and the entire community. The latrines, borehole, and school feeding program have addressed some of the most urgent needs of our school and have made it possible for us to continue our work with renewed energy and optimism.
As we continue to move forward, we hope that these improvements will inspire further support, especially in maintaining our borehole and expanding our educational offerings. We look forward to a future where our children can thrive in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.
May God bless 200 Orphanages Worldwide and GO! abundantly for all that you have done for us. You have brought hope and change to Aweil Town Orphanage School, and for that, we will be forever grateful.
With sincere thanks and blessings,
Jacob Kuel Akook

Global Orphan Relief (GO!) in partnership with Christ Mission to the World (CMW) establishes feeding centres at village schools to provide meals to orphan children which has inspired many orphan children to attend school.
Children at Luethwek, South Sudan, receiving meals.
We have served in South Sudan since 2016 and have provided an estimated 2.4 million meals impacting more than 3,200 children in South Sudan. The scale of this initiative has grown by over 7 times since our launch in 2016, and this growth is driven by the near-famine conditions, the influx of refugees from Sudan, and other socio-economic challenges in this country.
In cooperation with partners, Kids for the Kingdom, Christ Mission to the World, and 200 Orphanages, there has been $164,000 invested in four school sites since October 2020. This investment provides for clean water, kitchens, storerooms, and latrines, all of which allow for cost-effective distribution of food aid in these communities.
Global Orphan Relief (GO) has been serving orphaned children since 2005. We have accomplished this work through local in-country partners that provide oversight and distribution of care.
In 2025, we are working to stabilize our funding for this project and will begin planning for further capital improvements for the locations where we currently provide food aid.
