From Hunger to Hope: Empowering Widow-Led Families

From Hunger to Hope: Empowering Widow-Led Families

by ACM Team

In the heart of Ulutya, Kenya, we have the privilege of supporting 88 orphaned children across 31 widow-led households. Among these incredible families is the home of Elizabeth Nduku, a courageous widow caring for her eight grandchildren.

In the first quarter of this year, with the generous backing of Global Orphan Relief, we were able to extend vital support to Elizabeth’s household. Thanks to this assistance, her grandchildren are not only able to enjoy regular meals but are also staying in school — a crucial step toward building a better future, especially for those in high school.

One of Elizabeth’s grandchildren, Nicholas, stands out with his dedication and ambition. Currently a final-year student at Iiani Secondary School, Nicholas is preparing to sit for his national exams later this year. His dream is to pursue a career in medicine, and with continued support and hard work, he is determined to secure a place in medical school.

We are deeply thankful to Global Orphan Relief for making this impact possible. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Field Partner, Arising Christian Ministries, and Pastor Benson, who have been the hands and feet of this mission, ensuring that every child and household feels supported and hopeful.

Together, we are not just meeting needs — we are nurturing dreams and building futures filled with promise.

Please note that Pastoral care is provided to these students as our partners demonstrate the Gospel through your kind support.

We thank our local field partner, Arising Christian Ministries (ACM) in Kenya, for their efforts to meet the needs of orphans in their community. We have served with ACM since 2021. To continue this Widow-led Household project in Kenya, $700 in monthly support will be required. As of this month, we have suspended this Mission Project due to a lack of resources.

Often, orphan children are cared for by extended families, and their education becomes the lowest priority for the household. We aid the children who are in jeopardy of not attending school by working with local learning institutions to identify children in the community who need aid to attend school.

Global Orphan Relief (GO!) has been serving orphaned children since 2005, and as a result of this effort, orphan children, widows, families, and entire communities are transformed through our Education Initiative.  The care provided creates a ripple effect through the entire community as we demonstrate God’s love for His people.
