ICS Child Care Plus Impact on Schools – 2025 Report

The 2025 ICS Child Care Plus Report reveals a powerful story of transformation and hope. Across the schools supported by Global Orphan Relief, in partnership with World Outreach Team Action (WOTA), we have witnessed a tremendous increase in student enrolment, a clear indication that the right support and targeted interventions can open doors for countless children who were previously left behind.

Enrolment Growth: A Positive Trend

This year’s report focuses on the enrolment trends for the academic years 2024 and 2025. When we compare the figures from 2023 through to 2025, the rise in enrolment is both significant and inspiring. This upward trend shows that more children — especially those from orphaned and vulnerable households — are now finding their way into classrooms, thanks to a combination of impactful programs and supportive policies.

Supporting Data:

We began this partnership in January 2023 after a field visit in 2022. Today our partnership serves seven schools in the North-Western Province of Zambia.

Three major factors have contributed to this encouraging growth:

1. Free Education Policy by the Zambian Government

In 2024, the Zambian government introduced a policy of free education, a landmark move that removed a major barrier to learning for many families. By eliminating school fees and allowing children to enroll as long as they meet basic requirements such as wearing full uniforms and possessing school supplies, more children are now able to access education. This policy has significantly widened the door for those who previously could not afford to attend school.

2. ICS Child Care Plus Feeding Program

The ICS feeding program, introduced in 2023, has had a far-reaching impact not only on the children enrolled in the program but also on their households. By addressing the daily nutritional needs of learners, the program has improved class attendance and drastically reduced dropout rates. Children no longer need to skip school to search for food, and families are more motivated to send their children to school, knowing they will receive at least one nutritious meal per day.

3. ICS Child Care Plus Education Needs Program

Many orphaned and vulnerable children lack the basic necessities to attend school — uniforms, shoes, and learning materials. The Education Needs Program directly addresses this gap by providing these essential supplies. As a result, children who would otherwise remain at home due to lack of resources are now actively participating in school, prepared and proud to learn.

Building a Brighter Future

These interventions have not only increased enrolment numbers but have also played a vital role in promoting educational equity. More children from disadvantaged backgrounds are now getting the chance to pursue an education, empowering them with the tools to change their lives and impact their communities positively.

As we look to the future, it is clear that sustaining and expanding these programs will be crucial. Continued investment in accessible education, nutrition, and essential school supplies is not just beneficial — it is necessary. With ongoing support from partners like Global Orphan Relief and commitment from local communities and the government, we can ensure that no child is left behind.

Together, we are creating pathways for every child to learn, grow, and build a future filled with hope and opportunity.

Please note that Pastoral care is provided to these students as our partners demonstrate the Gospel through your kind support.

We thank our local field partner, World Outreach Team Action in Zambia, for their efforts to meet the needs of orphans in their community. We have served with WOTA since 2023. As we continue this effort it is important for us to secure the monthly support needed for this current level of aid so we can grow this partnership by serving additional children. Throughout the North-Western Province of Zambia there are more than 30,000 children that need assistance to attend school.

Support is needed for additional children to attend school. This aid and method of care allow families to support ALL the children in their households and strengthen communities by helping to maintain strong family units.

Often orphan children are cared for by extended families, and their education becomes the lowest priority for the household. We aid the children that are in jeopardy of not attending school by working with local learning institutions to identify children in the community who need aid to attend school.

Global Orphan Relief (GO!) has been serving orphaned children since 2005, and as a result of this effort, orphan children, widows, families, and entire communities are transformed through our Education Initiative.  The care provided creates a ripple effect through the entire community as we demonstrate God’s love for His people.
