Thirteen-year-old Orphan says GO! sponsorship has taught her to know her rights.

Following a six-year-funding of nutritional and biblical support in South Sudan, children, mostly orphans or children without parental care, who have been benefiting from these school-based and church-based supports say their lives have greatly improved.

At Beliek Orphanage Primary school, Monica Awan Deng, a brilliant young girl of 13-years says her life been greatly impacted by proper feeding and biblical guidance at her school. She says, she becomes aware of her rights including her right as a child and other universal rights.

“Because I came to this wonderful school which becomes like my home, I have learned everything about life and have begun to know everything about the importance of humans and myself as an individual.” She literally says during an interview.

Awan says she learns also to say, “no to early child marriage”.

In her academic dreams, she wants to be a pilot and says she will live by her dreams if GO! continues to support their education.

Awan comes from a poor and illiterate family background who can’t value the importance of education. She says she will be a real-life testimony in her village if indeed her dream comes true.

She finally says getting food assistance and biblical support has made her addicted to coming to school and church, hoping to have a better future.

In most parts of South Sudan, food security is an issue for children, and especially for orphan children who may have no advocate. Dowry, Bola, or sometimes called Bride’s Price, continues to be an issue in many communities throughout Africa, however, things are changing for the better. Through our Nutrition Initiative in South Sudan, we are empowering girls and providing life-saving food aid to 1,000’s.

————————-

We have served in South Sudan since 2016 and have provided an estimated 1.3 million meals impacting more than 3,200 children in South Sudan. The scale of this initiative has grown by over 7 times since our launch in 2016, and this growth is driven by the near-famine conditions and other socio-economic challenges in this country.

In cooperation with two partners, Kids for the Kingdom & Christ Mission to the World, there has been $130,000 invested in these three school sites since October 2020. This investment provides for clean water, kitchens, storerooms, and latrines, all which allows for cost-effective distribution of food aid in these communities.
