Update Zambia | Home-based Care Initiative

Report from our partner Noah Ministries in the Southern Province, Zambia

They have been working through several problems. The biggest is the rain. The rains came late but have overflowed the rivers and streams like Mike has never seen. He’s been trying to get to the Valley to visit the House of Hope but had to keep delaying. He’s going to try again tomorrow.

We received a 10-week old baby at Mapampi (at the House of Faith) with Social Welfare approval. Mike had given the relatives transport money to go to the Social Welfare office in Livingstone. For some years now, the relatives have to go and get SW approval. Mike was surprised when the relatives returned the next day with the approval letter.

It just happened to be the monthly shopping day, which was a relief for Mike. When the mothers arrived at his house in Kalomo to get the shopping funds, they needed to change clothes. They were all muddied from pushing the big truck to town. Everybody gets stuck and has to push. Going back to Mapampi,, 4 relatives of the 10-week old baby wanted to go and see the House of Faith. They live back near the Kafue National Park. They had to push going back many times. The relatives gave them more pushing power. At 2 AM they got stuck near enough to walk to the orphanage. One stayed with the truck to keep everything safe. Everyone is OK.

Mike had a vehicle in an accident, and another with a break down. All of this happening after some of his family being visited over three weeks. He says he’s a bit behind, but everything is good for Mike in Zambia.

Mike Jones of Noah Ministries sends his greetings in the name of Jesus! We have served with Noah Ministries in Zambia since January 2007.

Global Orphan Relief has been serving in Zambia since 2006

The House of Faith Orphanage project was begun in 2007, and we received our first child in March 2008. There are six homes for children, one home for a teacher, several playgrounds, community centre, cooking and laundry facilities, and multiple latrines currently at this campus. House of Faith currently host thirty orphaned children.

Global Orphan Relief (GO!) has been serving children since 2005, and as a result of this effort, widows, families, and entire communities are transformed through our Home-based Care Initiative.  The care provided through this initiative creates a ripple effect through the entire community as we demonstrate God’s love for His children.

Providing a home-based care option to the children that are most in need, places the child in a loving family, typically led by a widow, where they do life together in support of one another as a family. This level of care provides for all of the child’s needs until such time they are able to support themselves, or if appropriate, transition back to their extended family.

As a component of this initiative, we also do support children that may have the option to stay with extended family. We step-in to provide whatever resource gap that may exist for the child to ensure that all of the child’s needs are met.

In partnership with Noah Ministries, we have been able to send orphan children to school since 2015, impacting thousands of children in the process.
