Nelly Malambo | Home-based Care Initiative

This butterfly picture by Nelly represents her new life at House of Hope Orphanage in Sinazongwe.

Nelly Malambo is fifteen years old and lives at the House of Hope Orphanage (HOHO) in Sinazongwe, Zambia. Nelly and her brother Charles came from Chipepo to receive care in 2013.

Their grandmother was in her 70's at the time and struggling, so she came to HOHO for help. Based on Nelly and Charles' reaction to food after coming to HOHO, we concluded that they were often not provided food while others around them were eating. Neither of them had ever been to school.

Today, Nelly is a ferocious soccer player and loves to sing worship songs before going to bed.  Both her and Charles are excelling in their studies at school, enjoying a balanced diet, and growing big and strong!

Nelly and Charles are but two of the hundreds of children served through our Home-based Care Initiative in Kenya, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Zambia.

The House of Hope Orphanage project was begun in 2010, and we received our first child in 2013. There are two homes currently at this campus, a playground, and a community building to host teams.

Global Orphan Relief (GO!) has been serving orphaned children since 2005, and as a result of this effort, widows, families, and entire communities are transformed through our Home-based Care Initiative.  The care provided through this initiative creates a ripple effect through the entire community as we demonstrate God’s love for His children.

Providing a home-based care option to the children that are most in need, places the child in a loving family, typically led by a widow, where they do life together in support of one another.

This level of care provides for all of the child’s needs until such time they are able to support themselves, or if appropriate, transition back to their extended family.

As a component of this initiative, we also do support children that may have the option to stay with extended family. We step-in to provide whatever resource gap that may exist for the child to ensure that all of the child’s needs are met.
