March Update from Elizabeth McCallum

Mwabuka buti oonse!

Greetings all!

Can you believe that I only have a few more weeks here in Zambia? Though the last six months have been long, the end of my time has snuck up on me in some ways. The housemothers, too, seemed shocked to realize how soon we will part.

February was an amazingly wet month that meant our kids were stuck in the village and I was stuck in town for days at a time.

Getting out of the village, I joined a funeral group who had the advantage of a tractor hired to carry the body… the tractor pulled us out of more than one rough spot in the pouring rain! As much as I would have rather been in Mapampi than in town, the children had it harder, being isolated from medical care for weeks.

Thankfully, this last week was quite dry, giving the roads a chance to recover, and letting medicine be transported!

My pictures from this month show some of the adventures I had trying to make my way back to House of Faith, as well as other exciting aspects of life here:

Something else new in the last few weeks is the coming of a friend from Australia! Amelia arrived in February to spend the last month with me. I am so thankful for the companionship, and for hands to share the workload as I try to wrap up a long “to do” list before saying goodbye. It’s also been a joy sharing this place, the children, and a culture I love with someone who has never experienced it before.

I want to thank you all for the ways you’ve shared in my work here. Your interest, encouragement, giving, and prayers have made all the difference. A lot has been accomplished since September for these children. I plan to write you all one more time from back in the U.S. to share the many answers I’ve seen to your prayers. God knows I asked a lot of prayer from you, and only God knows how much your prayers have impacted!

Please do continue to pray for the children and housemothers at House of Faith whenever they come to mind. And be encouraged that, though you may not meet them this side of heaven, many orphans’ lives have been bettered through your prayers and generosity. Isn’t the Body of Christ amazing?

Many blessings to you all!

Tulabonana! …I’ll see you!

Elizabeth
