AWEIL, (SOUTH SUDAN)

David Yai Marach, a guardian to seven year-old orphan (Akoon Marach) comes to school to pass his message of “thank you” to GO! for the life impact of the child who is receiving nutritional meals at Lueth-wek.

Yai says his relative’s orphan (son to his brother) has been suffering in his house due to limited resources and lack of other income for good number of years upon the death of the child’s biological parents four years ago.

Now that Akoon Marach, an orphan was enrolled at GO! supported school at Lueth-wek of Aweil East County in Northern Bahr el State,  South Sudan, where he has been receiving healthy food from Monday to Friday every week. On this day his uncle accompanied him to the school to pass a word of acknowledgement for the life impact due to GO! partnership efforts.

“I came along with this child to this school because of great life impact I have seen in him. I was really suffering and was worried of how I can raise (sustain) this child as I am poor and the child lacks parents. As life was tough, I thought this orphan will be forced to join street children for life hustling but since he was admitted at Lueth-wek School by Christ Mission to the World, God has been doing wonderful changes in his and our lives too,” David Yai Marach testified to the school for the blessings received from God through GO! funding in South Sudan.

The Lueth-wek School, like the one in Adoor, is having an influx of students from the neighboring schools due to the excellent feeding of nutritional meals at school.

Yai says, the school is a gift to them from God and that they’re always grateful to be part of Lueth-wek whose blessings are uncountable in God’s Kingdom. “As a guardian, I would have not managed to feed and keep him healthy for the last two years but now you can see how our family is blessed to have this school in our neighborhood. We will always be praising the living GOD for this opportunity and blessings.”

Lueth-wek School, like schools in Adoor and Beliek, were blessed early this year to have structures completed with funding from GO! and Kids for the Kingdom. These buildings can be used as a storage, kitchen, and shelter as most of these schools hold class in the open space.

In the first six months of 2021 we have experienced a dramatic increase in the number of children coming to our partner schools to receive meals; more than a 1,000 new children in this time.

In the first five months of this year we have provided an estimated 261,300 meals impacting 3,162 children. The scale of this initiative has grown by more than 200% when compared to 2020 when we served just an estimated 85,160 meals to 852 vulnerable children.

Education in South Sudan is facing enormous challenges with the lack of qualified teachers, and little funding to effectively operate local schools. Most schools lack basic requirements like classrooms, toilets, food, and clean drinking water.

Plans for 2021 is to provide nutrition to more vulnerable children in the Aweil area. In cooperation with multiple partners (Kids for the Kingdom & Christ Mission to the World), we have invested in these school sites with additional infrastructure over the last 6-months by investing $109,200 during this time for kitchens, storerooms, and latrines. We have taken this a step further this month (July 2021) and Kids for the Kingdom has agreed to increase their support for the vulnerable children while we focus on the orphans that are in need.

Today we serve these precious children with our partner Christ Mission to the World who are the hands and feet on the ground, and now recently along with Kids for the Kingdom. In the coming days I will post how our ministry, scale and scope, has changed, how we arrived at this place, and our longer-term outlook for ministry in South Sudan. Stay tuned… but ultimately, more vulnerable children are receiving meals, with larger portions, and the Kingdom of God is advancing.
