Bridge of Hope Mission | Nairobi Kenya

I have decided to deploy to Kenya this year in preparation to sending multiple teams in 2022 & 2023.  I will be going to Nairobi in the first week of August and will spend time with our ministry partners Fortune Learners Centre and Christ Mission to the World who are both based out of Nairobi.  This Bridge of Hope Mission is really about building a bridge to greater impact for our ministry to orphaned children in Kenya for years to come.

We currently serve 163 children in Nairobi, 84 of which are orphaned children attending school on GO! Scholarships.  This is an awesome opportunity to learn first-hand how these children are being cared for in Kenya and to determine if there is something more we should be doing to serve these children.  In addition, I will be involved in encouraging local pastors as we consider new partners for the future.  Other objectives for my August visit are as follows:

  • Project development work in the Fortune Learners Centre for 2-days

  • Assessments for 163 children receiving aid through local partnerships

  • Updated Child Profiles for Scholarship recipients, Child Impact Reports, & Content collection and creation

  • Work thru logistics for future mission team deployments in Nairobi

  • Discussion with local church in Nairobi as to how we can encourage the local people to care for orphaned children (GCW)

  • Hands-on experience serving & fellowship in Nairobi Churches

There are multiple challenges for children in Kenya today as there are nearly 3 million children who are orphaned in Kenya today with 700 children being orphaned each day due to the impact of HIV. In Nairobi, 70% of the population lives in slums and 70% of the children in those slums do not attend school. Lastly, costs for secondary school remain 10-20x’s more than the monthly income of most Kenyan families making secondary education out of reach for most children.

Over the last several years I have been led toward the local church in Africa and Asia -meaning that we should explore how we can partner with the local people to care for the orphaned children in their midst.  We are being called to carry out the Great Commandment by serving orphaned children in partnership with the local church not in place of them, and we fulfill the Great Commission in the process.

Our work has not stopped during the pandemic and we have not even considered a pause as we serve more children today than ever in the history of our ministry -3,844 vulnerable children.  My final step in returning to Africa is to raise the $2,689 needed to cover the costs of airfare, accommodations, and local transport.  In addition, we have a need for $18,772 in unfunded scholarships that will keep 84 orphan children in school through the end of 2021.  We also estimate $1,500 in mission cost specific to our time in Nairobi.

Please prayerfully consider supporting this mission to Nairobi, Kenya, that will be foundational in determining how we serve children there in the future.  If you are moved to contribute to this effort please forward your support to Global Orphan Relief, 16352 Prairie Farm Circle, Parker, CO  80134.  Please input “Bridge of Hope Kenya” in the memo line so the funds are applied correctly.  If you prefer, you may also give by credit or debit card at BRIDGE OF HOPE KENYA.

Lastly, please join us in prayer for this journey, success during our visit, safety, maximum spiritual impact so that hearts will be changed, and care for families while I am away.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

Blessings, Scott Nordstrom / GO! President & Founder
