Child Impact Report | Fortune Learners Centre
Debora Nekesa | June 2021 | Grade 5
What needs of the child are being addressed through our partnership? -These are needs that the child listed before being one of the beneficiaries of this initiative; textbooks, school fees, food, costs of her remedial classes, shoes, exercise books, School uniforms, and snacks to take with tea or porridge. Debora has also been able to continue learning at home when COVID closed FLC for a time, with support from her teachers.
How are these needs being met today? - Currently as a result of the FLC/GO! partnership, the child now gets food (breakfast and lunch). Debora also has her school fees paid for and she is getting education both when the school is open or when closed in the past 12 months due to COVID-19. She is also attending remedial classes. There are textbooks in the school that she can take advantage of, but not offered to each individual child. FLC teachers are also providing Debora life skills outside the normal curriculum.
How might you describe the child… -Debora likes English the most and her favoriate activity is sports. Her favorite Bible character is Moses because he helped the Israelites to get away from Egypt. She would like to be a doctor when she grows up..
What's changed for the child because of the FLC/GO! partnership? - Debora gets taught by teachers everyday and that has improved her performance in all subjects. She is more energetic than she was because of the nutritious porridge and the lunch she receives each day at school. Her attendance is improved as well, as she looks forward to the meals and the instruction provided by the teachers.
What are the biggest current or future challenges for this child? - She has many challenges as their family struggles to pay rent. It not a secure situation for Debora which creates some fear about the future. Debora believes in Christ.
What outcomes will be desired and how will these be measured prior to the child departing our initiative? She would like to improve her academic performance when taking final exams. Debora would also like to experience spiritual and emotional growth by the way she handles personal issues, how she relates to God, and with how she interacts with other people around her.
Debora shared, “Thank you for supporting me so I can continue with my education and receive meals at school!"
