Child Impact Report | Fortune Learners Centre

Child Impact Report  |  Fortune Learners Centre

Briyannah Nancy  |  March 2021  |  Grade 7

What needs of the child are being addressed through our partnership?  -These are needs that the child listed before being one of the beneficiaries of this initiative; textbooks, school fees, food, costs of her remedial classes, shoes, exercise books, School uniforms, and snacks to take with tea or porridge.  Briyannah has also been able to continue learning at home when COVID closed FLC for a time, with support from her teachers.

How are these needs being met today?  - Currently as a result of the FLC/GO! partnership, the child now gets food (breakfast and lunch).  Briyannah also has her school fees paid for and she is getting education both when the school is open or when closed in the past 12 months due to COVID-19.  She is also attending remedial classes.  There are textbooks in the school that she can take advantage of, but not offered to each individual child.  FLC teachers are also providing Briyannah life skills outside the normal curriculum.

How might you describe the child…  -Briyannah likes mathematics and performs very well always, and she enjoys dancing both at home and in the church.  Her favorite Bible character is Jesus because he helps and heal people.  She aspires to be a fashion designer in future.

What's changed for the child because of the FLC/GO! partnership?  - She said that she has learned more how to read and write, her English speaking has improved over the year, and she has also shown great improvement in other subjects like Mathematics and Science.  Briyannah has also learned to share things with people and is also grateful that she now gets education even when the schools are not in session.  This is something new that even her caregiver could not offer her at home.

What are the biggest current or future challenges for this child?  - Briyannah said that she really needs prayer since she is not sure of her future after finishing her primary education through this partnership,  She is not sure whether she will join high school and that would only be because of her family situation.  They face many challenges making it very hard for their single parent to meet their basic needs.  Briyannah attends church every Sunday and would only love to continue growing in Christ because she believes God is the Savior of her life.

What outcomes will be desired and how will these be measured prior to the child departing our initiative?  - 1) Emotionally and spiritually grown to face the outside world.  2) Finishing grade 8 of Secondary education if the support continues beyond primary school at FLC.  3) Scoring over 400 marks out of the possible 500 marks by March 2022.  4) Improved health as a result of receiving a balanced diet and adequate portions.

Briyannah shared, “In the coming years I would like to continue supporting other needy children in our school"
