Peter Bol Garang Shares His Story

13-year old boy Testifies for Improving his status After GO! Support

As Global Relief Organization (GO) has been supporting a nutrition Progamme in South Sudan for the last 6 years, testimonies of what changes have the beneficiaries received so far are seen to be tangible within the communities this charity organization provides aid.

A thirteen-year-old boy has given testimonies of great improvement to his life status after receiving support from GO! in South Sudan. Peter Bol Garang says he has benefited from Global Relief Organization with spiritual coaching, basic education, and nutritious support since his beginning of becoming part of generous school meal campaign. Bol is part of 834 pupils registered at Lueth-wek in South Sudan who are getting basic support on school meals, education and spiritual guidance given at their local church and the partnering missionary organization, Christ Mission to the World (CMW). He says he didn’t believe his life could change so abruptly from being a beggar to a disciplined school attendant with healthy life status.

“Since I joined this school, I had at first opted to stay in the market and be a beggar instead than wasting my time in this school, but no wonder God called me for this life improvement.  I did not believe that I would so rapidly change and be smart as I look today. I used to stay with my siblings in the market to beg for daily meal which we then later shared in the evening for our up-keep.” Bol expressed his testimony during a school prayers and testimony last week at Lueth-wek, South Sudan.

Apart from Bol and his colleagues (pupils) in this school, the host communities are always attending the prayers and testimony during the week.  They listen to their fellow pupils as to what has been impacting their lives so far as they cheerfully watch them speak a foreign language (English).  Most of these host communities have also been converted from paganism to Christianity and have improved in attending to preaching of the word of God at their local church.

Bol hails from a poor family who couldn’t afford to buy him and his siblings some necessities for the past few years until when he got enrolled into a nutrition progamme, which he also noted that he has grown tall and healthy for past 7 months as he’s been eating school meals five days a week.  “As you can see, I changed both physically, height and my health because of the food that I’ve been eating here. This is something I can praise my God and Scott’s GO! for this huge impact they are creating in our lives. We can’t just take this for granted, but we need to learn and be able to help other needy people as this is being done to us today.” Bol explained to his fellow pupils and to those who will be hearing his voice on this special interview.  He says once educated, he will be a doctor so that he pays back to the poor people of South Sudan and the world.

In South Sudan, education is facing enormous challenges with the lack of qualified teachers, little funding to run the school, and most of schools lack basic requirements like school buildings, toilets, food, and clean drinking water.

Global Relief Organization (GO!) has been helping over 2,100 pupils in South Sudan with school meals and other basic needs. Bol is one of the pupils who came illiterate and now can read and write using the support he gets from GO!. Bol and his 2 younger siblings are getting support from this school today. The school is 10k walking from his home, but he always makes sure he comes earlier than others since this is where he can survive. He says Saturdays and Sundays are always difficult but keeps himself around the local church to help congregations when needed.
