Global Orphan Relief Update – GO! in India and Nepal
I was blessed to visit India and Nepal earlier this month. What an incredible experience!
Through a myriad of circumstances, the Lord lead me to visit a place that I have never gone before and had no real interest in visiting. As most of you know I quit my job in November to pursue GO! on a more full-time basis and I was reminded of this through this opportunity to visit Asia.
We visited New Delhi, Raipur, Jagdalpur, Kathmandu (Nepal), Chandigarh, and Shimla. I was able to speak at 4 churches, some on multiple occasions, encourage the local folks, assess several of their ongoing projects, and gain a better understanding of the plight of orphaned children in both India and Nepal. I was so encouraged by the local church leadership in this challenging place to minister.
In Nepal, I was able to meet with Pastor Arjun who I have known since 2012. He and his team is accomplishing huge Kingdom work in Kathmandu as they work to serve orphans, vulnerable children, and disadvantaged women in their community.
In New Delhi, we visited a slum where a program for the youth has been established. We met with Dave who is the community leader for the church in this location, and it is amazing what he’s doing. He earns money for this family by making special turbans during the wedding season. My heart went out to him as he lives and encourages the local people in the slum. He and his family of seven live in a very small place of one room and a curtain for a front door, but they did not seem to be wanting. I am in awe of these people of faith that surrender everything to follow Him.
One of the things that Dave does is work with the local children to get them integrated into school rather than begging for money on the streets. This school is a place that they can learn and hear the gospel for the very first time! With his wife Jyoti of 3 years, they recently adopted a 3-month old baby -Navya. Let’s keep this family in our prayers. The are on the front line of life-changing Kingdom work. Join us for our Gala in September to learn more about we might serve in India and Nepal. NEED: Our plan to serve 1,440 children can be achieved in 2018. As of April, we had a total impact (this includes all activity of our ministry to include our monthly programs, clean water, and the deployment of local volunteers) of 865 orphans in DR Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, and Zambia, while supporting 679 of these children in our ongoing programs. Our most immediate need is in regard to our Mission to Zambia next month. You can join us in building a school for orphans at TEAM 2018 A Servant’s Heart.
