Global Orphan Relief Update – Zambia

We have a large area of beans…  Beans are an expensive item for us in Zambia. We believe we can do better not growing maize based on the price being so low last year. This year no co-op is giving shares of seeds and fertilizer.  Mealie meal remains priced very low still K38.00 a bag of 25kg.

The children will again grow sweet potatoes in the garden and some are already planted. They also have planted popcorn! Our August team brought out seed packages from America and there was several sweet corn packets. They are excited to eat American sweet corn. We will also be planting groundnuts or peanuts. They will be planted before the end of the month. These are expensive items on our grocery list we hope to minimize or eliminate with our work in the garden.  These efforts at both the House of Faith (pictured and discussed here) and the House of Hope help make our care sustainable.  In addition, it is so important for the children to learn how all of their food is grown.

Pray with us that this will work. We had so much stealing and many animals eating out of our fields last year we decided to give this a try. We have started the weeding process.  The garden is very wet right now. I have not seen this so early in December. Normally it’s like January before we see this amount of water. Even the road out was already full of BIG puddles.

It was kind of raining when I took the pictures so a foggy place was on my lens. Blessings from Zambia, Linda Jones

NEED:  Our plan to serve 1,440 children can be achieved in 2018.  As of the end of 2017 we serve 688 children in DR Congo, South Sudan, and Zambia. (218 children in Zambia today with plans to grow the number we serve by 50%)

In South Sudan alone, there are another 900 children waiting for life-saving aid. These children are within the geographic area in which we serve today.  Our plans include serving these children in some way in the new year.  This will increase our budget for South Sudan by $51,100 for 2018.  In addition, the administrative and fundraising budget will increase based on our larger volume of children to $74,640 (25% of our overall budget), which will provide the capacity required for us to serve 1,695 children monthly by the end of 2018, and provide a foundation to build upon as to how we serve orphaned children going into 2019.  Here are following ways you can help:

1) Pray for Global Orphan Relief.

2) Volunteer -please reach out to us via phone, this website, or via email.

3) Keep up to date with our progress on our BLOG and or our FACEBOOK page.

4) Help us grow our resources for feeding the children in South Sudan at FEEDING PROGRAM.  Since February 2016 we have provided 145,125 meals in South Sudan.

5) “Teach One Child, & Save Thousands!” Help us keep the children attending School through our Scholarship program in DR Congo and Zambia. The feeding program in South Sudan also keeps the children coming to school each day.

6) To grow this movement will require additional resources and you can contribute to this effort at CAPACITY 1140.
